About leadership

Kathy Raffa, CPA

Kathy is an audit partner and president at Raffa.  She also serves on several Boards – one of which is public.  She manages engagements for a wide range of nonprofit entities including community based, national and international charitable organizations, trade associations, performing arts organizations, museums, religious institutions, private and charter schools, and private foundations.

With a genuine personality and more than 35 years of successful experience in serving the nonprofit sector, Kathy regularly provides clients with consulting and business advisory services.  Predictably, and especially with the success of Raffa, she’s consulted on topics including growth and organizational culture.

Upon her graduation from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Kathy spent the first 12 years of her career at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) where she was a nonprofit and higher education specialist and performed audits on many key clients, including the Smithsonian Institution, the International Monetary Fund, and Georgetown University.  She is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the AICPA and GWSCPA.

Kathy serves on the Board of Trinity Washington University, EagleBank and the Federal City Council. She is past Board Chair of Levine Music and also served on the Board of the United Arts Organization and the Capital Campaign Steering Committee of the Round House Theatre.

In 2017, Kathy earned recognition from Jewish Women International, The Washington Business Journal, and The Greater Washington Society of CPA’s for her leadership role in both the community and the profession while helping to grow Raffa into the largest women-owned CPA firm in the country.

Tom is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Raffa, which he established specifically to service the needs of the nonprofit community.
